This area has plenty of recreation opportunities. It's a hiker's paradise both in Glacier and the surrounding National Forest. Fishing on the lakes or rivers, whitewater rafting, calm water float trips, horseback rides and scenic tours by bus, boat or aircraft. Available to rent close by are boats, rafts and water toys,

Electric bikes and 4 Wheelers (they're street legal in Montana). There are wildlife and bird watching locations. Ride the gondola up the ski mountain near Whitefish, the views of Glacier National Park and the Flathead valley are awesome. The National Forest has mile after mile of back roads open to vehicle traffic and lots more available for non-motorized use.

FLATHEAD NATIONAL FOREST

Flathead National Forest makes for an excellent outdoor excursion. You can enjoy the nature trails by foot throughout the year (we recommend bringing snowshoes), or you can hop on a four wheeler or snowmobile and enjoy the dirt trails at top speeds!

All of this comes with a backdrop of the mountains in Glacier National Park. This forest is a delight.

THE FLATHEAD RIVER

The Flathead River has three forks. Both confluences are nearby. The North Fork is miles of free-flowing river, it makes up the western boundary of Glacier Park. Incredible views into Glacier from the North Fork Road.

The Middle fork is the southern boundary of Glacier Park. Whitewater rafting is on the Middle Fork from Moccasin Creek to West Glacier.

The Hungry Horse Dam backs up the South fork about 40 miles into the forest. The West Reservoir Road is paved for about 15 miles beyond the dam. The view from the road is great. Side roads go up into the mountains and down to the lake. The road goes all the way around the lake, it's about 100 miles.
